HOU DOP AS ABSA BLANKE WERKNEMERS ONTSLAAN
Mnr Varley sê dat Absa Bank S.A.

Mnr Varley beweer: “...employment decisions are based on what the management team determine.”

Barclays Bank United Kingdom
January  25th 2010
To:  The Chairman of the Board of Directors
 Group Chief Executive
Mr John Varley / Mr Marcius Agius
Barclays Bank, 1 Churchill Place London, E14 5HP

Dear Sir

The Afrikaner Volksparty is disappointed to learn from unsubstantiated reports that Barclays in the United Kingdom reached an agreement with the ANC- regime in South Africa with inter alia the following provisions:

a) Barclays UK will purchase the major shareholding in ABSA Bank SA;
b) Affirmative action will be enforced to the detriment of white Afrikaner employees who will be replaced by blacks.

It is said that Barclays had already restructured the lower tiers of the organisation structure by replacing white, predominantly Afrikaners, with blacks.  It would also appear that you have employed, a former ANC-activist mrs Maria Ramos, who incidentally, is a person with no banking background.  Apparently she has now been charged with the responsibility to transform and replace the present white management and supervisory employees with blacks.  We believe that up to 60% of the managerial positions are occupied by white Afrikaners.  Apparently mrs Ramos must complete this transformation process, by your own time table, and without delay.

In order for you to grasp the Afrikaner sentiment involved here we wish to elaborate slightly on the background and history of Volkskas (now called ABSA).  Volkskas was founded by the initiator mr J.J. Bosman and 25 of his colleagues during 1934 when they registered the bank as Volkskas (Koöp) Bpk, a co-operative (Ltd) Volksbank.  After the Anglo Boer war, followed by the First World War and the 1929-1933 depression, Afrikaners were desperately poor.  They did not own businesses of any significance.  Therefore, Volkskas was established to mobilise Afrikaner savings to enable other deserving Afrikaners to acquire businesses and also to improve existing ones.

By the time Barclays had acquired the major share portion of ABSA, the bank had already outgrown all other banks in South Africa.  This is another example how Afrikaners uplifted themselves with no help from outside, as opposed to other races who always rely on others.

Against this background it is shocking to note that Barclays, a bank of international repute, are becoming a conspirator against Afrikaner employees sacrificing their jobs and future as a condition of purchase of shares in exchange for black employment.  We also believe the whole conspiracy was master minded under a veil of secrecy. If so, it undermines the loyalty and integrity of your key personnel.

If the allegations are true, most certainly the Afrikaner should be informed about this. The question must also be asked: Are you still pursuing a war against the Afrikaner people? And if so, why?

We await your urgent reply in this regard.
Yours faithfully

A.M. van Rooyen
Executive Committee

Dear Mr van Rooyen,

Thank you for your letter of 27 January.

I can confirm that Barclays completed the purchase of a majority stake of nearly 54% of Absa Bank SA on 27 July 2005. The completion of that transaction relied, among other things, on the support of Absa shareholders, 99% of whom voted in favour of it. I can also confirm that the completion of that transaction involved absolutely no agreement regarding employment whatsoever, let alone what you have suggested.

Absa remains an independent South African company, with its own Board of Directors, Chairman and Chief Executive, and operates under the auspices of the South African Reserve Bank. As such, the company must comply with South African law, including employment law. All individual employment decisions by the company are, therefore, taken in the context of those laws and based on what the management team determine is the most appropriate course of action for the long-term success of the business.

Your accusations and assertions with respect to Barclays' intentions and actions are wholly without foundation.

Yours sincerely

John Varley

En dus is ek by ABSA gestrand! Help asseblief as ek verkeerd is.

As jy bv.

Dit help my baie met beplanning van my finansiële begrotinkie.
